Current Position: (May 2012 – ) Post. Doc. position at the University of Parma, Department of Physics and Earth Sciences.
My research is focused on the characterization of the interfacial dynamics and mechanical response of molecular and nanoparticle films at liquid interfaces. I investigated the aggregation process that leads to the formation of 2D colloidal gel networks of gold nanoparticles, which we found to show relevant similitudes to percolation and network formation. We were able to characterize the interfacial dynamics and its heterogeneities using X-ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy in Grazing Incidence geometry (GI-XPCS), performed at the air/water interface. Using the same techniques, we have been able to characterize different dynamical regimes induced by silica nanoparticles of different philicity adsorbed/incorporated into phospholipid monolayers at the air/water interface.
We are characterizing the nanoscale effects induced on phospholipid films by magnetic nanoparticles under radio-frequency magnetic field irradiation, using Microrheology, Epifluorescence Microscopy, X-ray Reflectivity and Grazing Incidence X-ray Diffraction.
I am also developing CeF3-ZnO inorganic nanostructures for Self-Lighted Photodynamics Therapy of Cancer. Here, CeF3 nanoparticles act as scintillators under X-ray irradiation to excite ROS production from ZnO layers grown onto the CeF3 seeds.

Education

Laurea Triennale (Bachelor Degree) in Physics obtained at "Università degli Studi di Parma", Parma, Italy.

  • Period: from 2003 to 2006.
  • Stage at the "Laboratory for Molecular Nanotechnology", Physics Department, "Università degli Studi di Parma". Final results were presented in a report, "Low-frequency Raman measurements on photosensitive glass-forming polymers".
  • 110/110 cum laude.

Erasmus Student at "Université Joseph Fourier", Grenoble (France)

  • Period: from January to July 2008.
  • Stage at ID10A - ESRF, working under the supervision of Andrei Fluerasu and Anders Madsen. I studied the structural and dynamical properties of suspensions of sterically stabilized PMMA particles in decalin, performing XPCS and SAXS in several experimental runs.

Laurea Specialistica (M.Sc) in Condensed Matter Physics obtained at "Università degli Studi di Parma", Parma, Italy.

Ph.D. in Physics obtained at "Università degli Studi di Parma", Parma, Italy.

  • Period: from January 2009 to March 2012.
  • My research has been focused on the optical and mechanical characterization of nanostructures formed by nanoparticles at the air/water interface, in interaction with photosensitive molecules. I investigated the aggregation process that leads to the formation of a 2D gel network starting from gold and silica nanoparticles, characterizing the different interfacial dynamical regimes using X-ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy in Grazing Incidence geometry, performed at the air/water interface.
